The Best Show on TV!

I call do-overs on my last post called "Best Show on TV". Because, actually, The Singing Bee is the best show on TV. It's got everything that's great about American TV (the whole classic gameshow vibe) and, at the same time, cleverly pokes fun at everything wrong w/ TV (extravegance, excess, the illusion of instant stardom).

Nobody gets a million dollars. Nobody has to "lock in" their "final answer". America doesn't "vote". And there is no ominous lighting or intense mood music. Just good fun.

It had Jill and I laughing uncontrolably, yelling "Hey! That's not fair!", and singing along to Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" all in the same 30 minutes.

Can't wait to Netflix season 1 !

but are you sure that they're "cleverly poking fun at all that's wrong with tv?" Is the show that smart? What if they're completely NOT ironic about it?

I'm not sure it's THAT smart. It's just so refreshing to to someone with just as much (or little) talent as an American Idol contestant, go up and sing off key and make up words and they win a couple of bucks and a trophy and it's understood in advance that they will be forgotten after the commercial break, rather than remembered on a Pepsi can the next morning.

Name That Tune. Wheel of Fortune. Pyramid.

btw, Wes thought I'd be a good candidate for that show, but after watching it once or twice I realized that the ones who do well are way out of my league!
