Your top 5 albums?

OK, so me, Jill, and LoRizzle were talking last night about our picks for top 5 favorite albums and I thought that would be an interesting post.

Mine are (in no particular order):
"Trace" by Son Volt
"Rust Never Sleeps" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse
"The Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel
One of the Starflyer59 albums- probably "Americana" (a.k.a. the red album)
"Graceland" by Paul Simon

So.... What are your top 5?
Please comment.....

note:
Keep in mind, this is not the famous "5 albums you would take on a desert island" scenario, because usually, for that, people don't pick their faves, they pick stuff they wouldn't get sick of. This is strictly your favorites.

For all time:

1. Billy Joel - Piano Man
2. U2 - Zoo Station
3. Bob Dylan - Oh, Mercy
4. Peter Gabriel - Secret World
5. Sting - Soul Cages

Right now (most likely forgotten in a year):
1. Spoon - Ga ga ga ga ga (probably won't be forgotten)
2. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky (might not be)
3. Modest Mouse - We were dead before the ship even sank (definitely will be)
4. Cat Power - The Greatest (will become part of the party mix)
5. Destroyer - Destroyer's Rubies (this might be one for the ages)

I gotta check out gagagagaga based on yours and my brother's strong endorsements.

That's a pretty bold statement about Destroyer, but then I listened to it on itunes and you might be right. I know Jill would love it because she likes that guy's songs the best on the New Pronographers albums.

This is a tough one. I've never considered albums the way I've considered books and the advent of iTunes has trained me to think of songs sans the album context.

I can probably count the albums I know really well on two hands.

Help-The Beatles (3rd grade, my friend's brother's album. we were so rad!).

Go-Go's-Beauty and the Beat (the height of middle school coolness)

Carol King-Tapestry (brief, post college, retro phase)

Marc Cohn-(circa 1994. forgot the name of the album, but my housemate listened to it so much that I learned all the songs.)

Vienna Teng-Waking Hour (nice debut)

U2-various albums (can only take in moderation)

Los Straightjackets-Rock en Espanol (first full album I've bought in a long time. really like it)

okay let's see. without thinking about it too much, here are mine:

1. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. High school, sophomore year, I thought I was really cool to be so retro.

2. U2 - Achtung Baby. Freshman year of college, I listened to it ALL the time, but was too nervous about my first midterm to go their Zoo TV tour concert, a decision which I deeply regret.

3. Counting Crows - August and Everything After. Junior year of college, melancholy and self righteously serious, sort of like me at the time.

4. U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind. From a few years ago, post-divorce, loved every song but one, and that's just because I'm jealous that I've never been to New York City.

5. Euro Mixes. Assembled by Gid Kids. I like them all, so maybe this is cheating, but I love how they remind me of being on a train somewhere in Europe, and how at first I didn't know any of the songs, but now I love so many of them.

You've never been to NYC? Forget Europe, girl, go play en la manzana grande!

Arrright. So my top five, that is the ones that I've listened to more than any other, in no particular order, without putting too much thought into it, are probably:

Paul Simon - Negotiations and Love Songs (I know it's a best of but it's still probably his best . . . aside from old church music, I'm more apt to sing these songs when I'm alone than any other ones)
Neil Young - After the Goldrush (my favorite album to dance to . . . )
Buddy Guy - Stone Crazy (as explosive as it gets--all live in the studio, with lots of musical violence)
Weezer - Weezer (. . . because sometimes the sea is foaming like a bottle of beer . . . it's the _Pet Sounds_ of my youth and still what I listen to when I'm in a real good mood)
Lyle Lovett - Step Inside this House (you can bag on Lovett all you want but this album is a real gem)
